Back to school or back to the table
Back to school or back to the table
     Written by Administrator|Thursday, 07 January 2010 09:31

Students playing poker is an interesting phenomenon as poker is usually geared towards the middle-aged crowd. Not anymore, it seems. Television has helped to spread the popularity through coverage of numerous poker tournaments. The internet has more online poker rooms now than ever before. And on top of all this, companies have lately been aggressively spreading their marketing audience to younger age groups.

The three words that all students and school pupils hate to see are 'Back to school'. But nowadays, online poker is being played by more students.

Â

If you thought college kids were supposed to be going to classes, reading Shakespeare, Marx or Freud, then you are much mistaken. Modern students spend more time online than almost any other market.

Instead of going to parties and drinking beer, online poker is what's hot on the campuses.
Is this a good or bad thing? Well, in one way it's terrible because it means these kids will be able to hone their poker skills and beat the older players. On the other hand, it could be good poker news if they can use their winnings to pay for their college fees!

Ok, so there'll be less Einsteins in the world, but think of it this way â€" poker is a form of education. Yes, you can learn the basic skills needed in life how to bluff, strategize and it even involves some mathematics.

Who knows? One day there could be a University of Poker, next door to Harvard.

Some are worried about these college-age players turning into gambling addicts - this could be true. But one thing is for sure, poker is becoming a big way for people of all ages to relax, have fun and even make some bonus cash at the same time. Game on.
