Phill was a college student when he started playing poker. From there he started his journey towards becoming a pro player in poker industry. He was very young when he took part in World Series of poker in 1989. He did very well in most of WSOP main events and eliminated great players like Johny Chan. Johnny Chan is also Phil's favorite player and he admires Jonny. 2007 was the turning point in Phil's professional career when he won the main event of WSOP and got a huge success by wining his 11th gold bracelet. Phil is also amongst those rare poker players, who have maximum cash in their account. He also performed outstandingly in the main event of 2008 WSOP.

He got success in a very young age and is capable enough to maintain it further. Phill made a unbreakable record of wining three consecutive events of WSOP.
